Spotless

This painting is part of a new series that I am doing. It will be similar to my really old paintings, the Asian Mythology series, but more scifi-ish, and hopefully more thought provoking as well. But I don’t expect to make statues out of them like I did with that series. Sculpting is a lot of fun in initial stages, but gets to be a grind towards the later stages.

With enough practice in painting, I am hoping to get my art to a level where I can showcase and get a following in Patreon. Seems like a great crowd-funding (supporting) platform for artist to do what they love. I suppose I need to really improve on my art first. But things are starting to ‘click’ more with each painting.

Having a Hard Time Finding a Playstion 5 Console

Playstation 5 Going on six months now since its release date and still I am unable to find a Playstation 5 console. This is rather ridiculous for any new product launch. I am a fan of Sony’s Playstation since it’s first release way back. Having worked in the game industry, I remember how awesome their games were compared to Nintendo or Sega. Anyhow, getting back to looking for the PS5. Looks like there are over 10,000 listings on eBay for the Playstation for sale! Everyone knows about the scalpers using their sniper bots to jump ahead of regular buyers for the PS5, but this is turning into a real business for these people. And it’s out f control. The prices for the PS5 is about double the MSRP. Not a bad return for your purchase, or investment.

The reason I am looking for the PS5 is to be able to play Fortnite. Me and my kids play Fortnite almost everyday, we call it family squads, because that’s what it really is in the game, full squads. We have two Playstation 4 and one XBox. I play on Alienware PC with the GeForce GTX 1080. It’s a lot of fun. But the Xbox requires an online subscription to be able to play Fortnite, which to me is a total rip as Fortnite is free to play everywhere else. That’s why I want the Playstation 5, to replace the XBox.

Help Stop the Scalpers

This whole scalping thing with the PS5 is getting annoying, that’s why I’m rambling here. I wish that people will STOP buying from scalpers. Stop rewarding these scalpers who are partly responsible for the shortage in the first place. It is the only way to send a message and stop these scalpers. Don’t buy from them.

Emily Rudd Painting with Oil Brush

Latest painting using an oil brush in Photoshop. This is the first time I have used this kind of brush in Photoshop. It definitely feels more like real traditional painting. I really like how this brush allows me to place and push colors around without mudding everything up. Maybe this is the better way of painting, I don’t know. But it definitely seems more “fun.”

This is Emily Rudd if you didn’t recognize her. I didn’t realize that I had use her face in one of my old portrait drawing videos. I was looking for a pretty face to paint and she popped up again in the search. So she must have a pretty face=). Anyhow, for the background I decided to add some colors so that it is not a plain white background again.

Woman on Lounge Painting

Here is the finished painting from my previous post. I have added a background since I realize I better start learning about placing my subjects into a scene to create somewhat of a narrative. This is something that I have done very little in the past and I guess it is because I do feel intimated by that process. It is a lot easier to just paint a figure without any background, just splash on some design element in the back and call it done. But I think I have been doing myself a disservice by doing that.

So there, from now on, I will push myself to paint in backgrounds to create a narrative.

More Practice and My Palette

My latest portrait painting using the same technique that I’ve talked about previously. Again the resolution is very low, under 600 pixels tall. What you see here is my actual resolution.

On the left of the portrait is the palette that I have been using lately. It seems to work well as a starter palette, just to have something to put down. Then I can refine the colors to give it a different mood or color scheme. In Photoshop, I use the Curves adjustment for that. It’s a quick fix, but overall, I am trying to stay away from effects when painting. I notice that I learn a lot more about the process of painting if I just stick with learning to place in the “correct” color in the first place. Colors is so complicated and seems like the more I learn, the more complicated it gets. That really applies to anything in life I guess.
